Some of the best beauty tips still come from old school. Our elders always give old school tips for healthy hair, either men or women these apply to everyone.

Ever wondered how our grandmother and all her friends had natural, healthy and shiny hair. Our great-grandmothers (and great-great-grandmothers) knew how to have long, lustrous hair. Lets follow some of their tips and embrace natural healthy hair.

Old School tips for healthy hair

Here are six old school tips for healthy hair in easy steps to have the hair of your dreams without spending a fortune on products or equipment.

Wash your hair less frequently

You’ve probably heard that washing your hair too frequently and with harsh cleaning products is unhealthy. Do you, on the other hand, understand the reasoning? Shampoo, for example, can strip your hair of its natural oils, encouraging your scalp to produce more. As a result of the vicious cycle that this creates, you are forced to wash more frequently.

Although some royal beauty books recommend washing your hair every two to six weeks, you can probably cut that down to once or twice a week. Look for shampoos that do not contain sodium laureth sulphate (SLS), an ingredient that creates a lot of bubbles but causes your scalp to dry out. Natural products are highly recommended for healthier hair.

Use Cold Water to Rinse

One of the simplest and most efficient things you can do for your beauty routine is to rinse your hair with cold water. Cold water seals the cuticle, giving your hair a shinier appearance. It also helps to reduce frizz. If you have a flaky scalp or dandruff, cold water is preferable to hot water.

Be Gentle with Wet Hair

Did your grandmother ever tell you not to brush your wet hair? She was completely correct. Brushing aggressively is a bad idea because wet hair is more likely to break. You can gently comb out tangles while your hair is still wet. I recommend using a microfiber towel or turban to remove the water from your hair instead of a terrycloth towel.

Use Soft Bristles Brush

Brushing is the one constant beauty tip for shiny, beautiful hair. A modern brush, on the other hand, is far too harsh on the scalp, so avoid using one. Good hair brushes distribute the oils from your scalp throughout the length of your hair. Because the bristles are soft, they are not intended to drag across your scalp or remove tangles. Using Natural bristle brush or Mixed bristle brush is recommended for brushing your scalp.

Here is an old school tip for hair care from my grandma! Brush your hair for a few minutes every evening for a week to see if there is a difference. The amount of time depends on how long your hair is!

Head massage

If you don’t wash your hair frequently, how will your scalp be cleaned? Traditionally, most women moistened their fingers with water before massaging their scalps. The massage and gentle exfoliation both assisted in removing buildup and stimulating the skin. It was also a peaceful way to end the day.

Accept Hair Wrap

Women of colour have known about this trick for a very long time. Wearing a cap or wrapping your hair in cloth helps to prevent hair breakage, dry scalp, tangling, and other hair-related issues.

Using silk or satin pillowcases while sleeping also works. Another wise decision is to loosely braid long, straight hair before going to bed.

These old school tips for healthy hair will help you get naturally healthy, lustrous hair and scalp. And will also provide more relaxing  sleep and relief from hair problems.
